Why I Chose Nursing

I have been interested in health care since I was a child. When I was five, my parents bought me my own little white coat and a stethoscope, which I proudly called my "step-a-stope". Sixteen years later, I am living out my childhood dream as a nursing student. Being able to help others who are is something I always try to take full advantage of, and the University of Florida gives me many opportunities to do this.

Why I Chose Grenada

Throughout high school, I participated in multiple programs where I traveled to different countries, including Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. These were service based programs, and I loved being able to spend time with those in another country and help them in their daily lives. I think what was extra special about this Grenada trip was that not only did we bringing supplies and provide service, but we also educated people. Giving others the gift of knowledge is important because they could carry it with them even after we left Grenada. I also felt that I gained a better sense of international nursing. My only exposure to nursing had been an Americanized version, and I feel that experiencing healthcare in another culture has allowed me to better serve culturally diverse patients in the United States.
